Most of the photos above show me cleaning a beautiful hand cut headstones and depict the various cleaning tools/methods I use. I take a large amount of water to my jobs, around 20 litres in a jerry can which is backbreakingly heavy for an old boy like me lol. First I wet the stone, then spray a liberal amount of D2 biological cleaner all over the headstone. I allow it to work and nourish for around ten minutes, then get to work. I start scrubbing from the top down, meaning any dirt goes downwards and once an area is clean it remains clean. I use a soft plastic scraper for any areas thick with lichen, moss or algae. On the lettering I use a small detail soft brush which maintains the crispness of the cut lettering and will not damage it in any way. As someone who has worked with stone for many years I will testify that stone is much more vulnerable than people generally think and great care should be paid to areas of fine detail. After the first clean I repeat the process, then do so again if required. On the stones above, I repeated the process three times until it was spotless.
